About: Grindhouse
Grindhouse was originally released on April 6th, 2007 in the United States, with both films shown together in one long run. It was released as an homage to such films as were famous in the sixties and seventies for their exploitative nature. The concept was originally the two films together, with faux trailers before and in between. The faux trailers were themselves mini films, and a few of them are now being considered for production.

While not succeeding well in the box offices (most blame the long running time and the inability of theatres to play it overly much) it became a cult passion almost overnight. The art-style graphics and obvious love of the genre created a half homage, half parody that went beyond the original idea and became almost paradoxically artsy.

The film is set to be released separately in other nations, with the faux trailers intact before the separated films. While some argue this will detract from the viewing pleasure and central idea of a double-feature, it will allow more people with less time to view the film.
About: Planet Terror
Starring Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodriguez, and Marley Shelton, Planet Terror is the first of the double-features, and the more arty of the two. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, Planet Terror is the story of Cherry Darling trying to survive as zombies ("Sickos") infect the world. Her ex-lover and she are on the run from the Sicko-infested Austin, Texas, and along the way they gather up other people, all trying to stay alive, and doing whatever they can to find a way out.

An homage to the gory, comedic zombie films of the 70's, PT exploits everything it can on its way to survivalism: sex, death, gore, and, of course, exploding zombies that just won't die.
About: Death Proof
The second in the double-feature, Death Proof is chronologically in line before PT, set again in Austin, Texas. Starring Sydney Poitier, Rosario Dawson, Zoe Bell, and Kurt Russel, Death Proof starts out as the story of three girls just looking to have a great night out on the town and ends as the story of four girls playing rough with their cars. Along the way, Stuntman Mike, a car-lover with murderous intent, has a little fun of his own.

Directed by Quentin Tarantino, the film is more an homage to car flicks of the 70's, with distinct slasher elements from the original horror flicks.
